100 Salem2004
The facade of the lower two floors of 100 Salem Street in Boston’s North End, had been stripped and replaced by aluminum frame commercial windows and stucco, probably during the 1960’s. This project is not, strictly speaking, a restoration as there was nothing left to restore. We imagined a new facade of cast stone, emulating a rather Beaux Art approach to urban design. This design was awarded the 2004 National Design Award by the Cast Stone Institute of America.
